About Me

About Kathy Bernard, RDN

I became a Registered Dietitian because I always had a personal interest in helping one be healthy.  My parents did not take good care of themselves which sparked my interest and passion for being and staying healthy.  My dad had cardiovascular disease, a stroke and diagnosed Parkinson's with dementia.  My mom had alcohol abuse disorder along with being a smoker and had bilateral stents due to blockages.  My family also has a strong history of mental health issues including depression, bipolar and suicide.  The culmination of the medical issues that I have been associated with when I was growing up is what influenced my desire to learn about how to prevent these health problems.

I earned my Master’s in Science from CW Post College in Brookville, NY  and also completed my supervised practice at CW Post College as well. I passed the national registration exam in 1994 to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and have kept up my credentials ever since.  My experiences in the field of nutrition include the hospital setting, long term care, home health, the prison system, cancer care, disabilities and special needs, community nutrition and food service.

My approach is straightforward: nutrition should fit your actual life, not the other way around.  Most of my clients know what they need to do, but do not have the tools or knowledge knowing how to make these needed changes a reality.  My job is to help you with the how.   I look at what you're already doing, find the changes that'll matter most, and we work through them one at a time. Most people don't need an overhaul — they need a few things tweaked and the reasoning behind them, so the changes hold after we're done.

I am a wife, mom, sister, aunt, niece, friend & co-worker.  I enjoy RVing, exercising - especially walking and working out with weights.  If I could be a paid professional reader - I might just take that job.  I also enjoy quilting when I have the chance.  And when it comes to family - I especially love spending time with my family.  My favorite times together include game nights and movie nights.
